Ugly Betty - This one was better than it's been in a couple of weeks and I think I've finally rationalized why Daniel appears to be so much more of a jerk in the episodes in which he doesn't have a lot of contact with Betty. It's not just the levity and cuteness in Daniel/Betty scenes that I miss; it's that those are the only times we get an honest look at what is going on in Daniel's head while he's doing all the stupid things. Without interaction with Betty, all we get is Daniel being stupid. With the interaction, we get the stupidity and an explanation. So while I cringed every time Daniel opened his mouth to say something increasingly idiotic to Hunter, I still found his character to be more sympathetic and endearing than I had the past few episodes.

I still don't grok Sofia though. It's like one of those sappy movies that I don't get either, when the girl is thisclose to marrying one guy but is still so torn that she can justify messing around with another guy. This does not evoke either sympathy or understanding from me. It provokes irritation. It's not romantic. It's trashy. Anyway...

Love that Santos is trying to connect with Justin. Sad that he is so tragically out of touch with his kid. Love that Wil is trying to connect with Niko. Surprised that it seems to have happened awfully quickly. I'll be expecting a relapse soon. Nice to see Christina getting a few prods in at Wil concerning Niko, and that Wil let her. Greatly amused by Marc and Amanda. They are cute. Love that they've gotten involved in the Fey storyline. That finally has some potential.

Bradford is the worst conspirator ever. His solution to not trusting his own private investigator is to hire a hit man? I do think evidence is mounting that it was Claire behind Fey's "death", not Bradford. He was too wigged by the phantom figure and she was way too cool over his panic attack. There were odd dynamics in that scene.

As for my favorite parts, lots of nice Daniel/Betty interactions. I so completely do not buy that Daniel would ever rationally call Betty for fashion advice. (And yes, so very Two Weeks Notice.) I was entirely convinced that he'd go with the opposite of whatever she chose. However, she chose the purple and that is obviously Daniel's signature color, so it was a good call. I loved her snippy parting line of "I came all the way down here, you'd damn well better wear whatever I picked out!" and his meek little "yes, ma'am". Paraphrased, of course, but that's so what the subtext captioning said. Hee!

The dance lesson via phone was priceless. Loved that she knows him well enough to call him on the dorky lip biting thing. Loved the bartender's rationale for calling Betty. Loved the way poor plastered Daniel brightened when he realized she was there. Aw. This is what I watch this demented little show for.

Supernatural -
Just a few random observations:
  • I have to admit I find it hilarious that even demons seem to think that Dean Winchester is hot. Not that I'm arguing, mind you. I just think it's hilarious.
  • Sammy still doesn't have a police record? Heh.
  • Digging up crossroads in the middle of the day. Subtle, boys. Very subtle.
  • I don't think that the visible trap under the Impala was sloppiness. I can easily rationalize how it was a deliberate attempt to throw the demon off track, make her let down her guard, and lure her into the real trap. Because there's no way Dean actually wants to trap a demon Inside His Car. Hee. No.
  • I don't care how badly he might have mangled the pronunciations. I don't speak Latin. Hearing Dean speak it -with whatever accents- is awesome.
  • Still not entirely sure why the demon left that woman after Dean let it go. Afraid he might change his mind about exorcising her after all? Or did I miss something more subtle?
  • Loved George. Loved how he scoffed at their lack of voudoun knowledge. Loved that Dean didn't really seem to have a problem admitting that they knew a little about a lot and just enough to be dangerous.
  • Nice promos.
