So I've just seen the recut Thai martial arts film The Protector.  It was just the right movie for a stressful time.  I'd read a very unfavorable review, and I'm glad the star pulled me through ( Read more... )

It's a great movie. I find it funny it's been re-titled since the original title is the name of a dish commonly served in Thai restaurants in the USA; so it doesn't need "translating".

Oh, also, if you saw the US release, can you confirm:

1. Tony Jaa is subtitled, but everyone else is dubbed, even the people who were originally speaking in "English"?

2. An elephant is not thrown through a window.

You totally need to get (or find someone with) a region free DVD player and the Thai DVD.

The English version ends with a closing monologue so bad that I'm pretty sure they had to kill a baby to make it. I'm curious if that was in the original.

An baby elephant is thrown, but not through a window.

The bad Thai people speak dubbed English, and the good Thai people speak Thai. It's possible English speakers were dubbed over.

I think my old video store carries this movie (I saw B13 on DVD, I think before Zane was born). They get a lot of foreign stuff, I think even USA encoded, before US distributors get around to it.
