Organic Foood!!!

May 07, 2008 12:48

My Mum scared me yesterday a lot, she saw a TV program where they said that bodies on European cemeteries don't decompose because the food those people were eating was all chemical, with antibiotics and other stuff for conservation, preservation, and so on. So basically, they were embalmed alive. I'm now very scared and decided to turn to organic ( Read more... )

well to set the record straight, food down here in good old NZ has a lot higher standards as to what can be added to it than europe, so i wouldn't get too panicked about the whole thing.

Just up the amount of fresh stuff you buy and stay away from junk food and heavily processed stuff , and especially twinkies, did you know that a twinky bar has an almost indefinite shelf life?

honest survivalist handbooks recommend seeking them out if you survive the end of the world as there the only food guaranteed to be in the same condition as the day it was packed, which given its got that much preserving crud in it isn't saying very much.

so fresh veges, meat from the butcher, or butcher section of the super market, and if you can spring for it fresh bread from the bakery, and you'll have nothing to worry about :)

Ok, good, looks like it's too early to panic. So what is the difference between meat from the butcher and the butcher section of the supermarket?

Bread - is it that like in those little bakeries, were they have the big loafs, they are not cut? Gosh, I already forgot when I last time bought bread loaf that wasn't cut. In Russia, I think, which will be 4.5 years ago.

Veges they have some in foodtown, but very few. I checked the yellowpages, they say there are kinda special markets, but they are all so far from me. I guess I just need to study the conditions around and find the most suitable options *nod*

*hugs*

Why are you scared about what will happen to your dead... lifeless... soulless... conciousness free CORPSE when you die?
It's just a shell where you used to reside after all. And you only live once. Eat what you want.

Well, I'm not really worried about what will be after the death. It's just that lack of decomposing means something is wrong with the body on chemical level - very wrong, and so I guess it might cause problems during life time as well. In fact, would be strange if it doesn't. My Mum said that my suddenly appeared allergy may be result of eating a lot of fastfood in the last few years, as I never had allergies before, and there was almost no fastfood then. I tend to agree with her on that, though it of course require a lot more research.
I'm just generlly very interested in human biochemistry, so in this case I paid special attention;-)))

More likely it is a result of the horrific chemicals that were in that cleaner! Come on now, woman! Nom away! Just try to eat a relatively balanced diet and exercise a bit (not that I do this, but I know I should!) and be happy! If you can find organic food easily and cheaply, then go for it - but in my experience organic food is so overpriced

Yup, it is quite expensive, but well... Maybe I should just eat less of it.
Plus, surprisingly, the organic milk appeared tasty to me - to someone who hates milk. Maybe it's all about taste...
Also, I found that while eating plain stuff I feel better, so it's all a matter of how lazy I am;-)))

a relatively balanced diet and exercise a bit

Would it not be that balanced diet with organic stuff?
I know I need to exercise *sigh*, keep kicking myself to do it, and just can't. Such bad me. Very bad me.

As for cleaner's chemicals - I bet they are killing everything alive, it just cleaned the very dirty stuff in seconds. I should have got suspicious about that;-)))

Two good quotes from Michael Pollan who has written about food issues extensively.

Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.

Don’t eat anything someones great-grandmother wouldn’t recognize as food.

The second one I've changed from 'your great-grandmother' to someones great-grandmother, because I'm fairly sure mine wouldn't have known what a fejoa was, but she probably would have found a use for it.

The only other advice I can give you is balance. Everything in moderation.

Heh, that does make a lot of sense, especially the "not too much" part. You know, I more and more understand that in reality we might need much less food then we actually often eat, but it's the whole idea of "this is yummy, and it is here", or "time to eat", or other things like that, all those stereotypes about food.

Moderation is a great thing, yup.

There is a really good organic foodstore down the road from where you work. You go past the KFC and on the corner where the Mobile petrol station is, there is a fresh vege and fruit shop that also sell gluten free and organic food. Sorry can't remember the name at the moment. Most supermarkets have organic food, but they tend to be quite pricey.

Oh, that's a valuable piece of information! I should indeed check it, thank you!
