This is the only particular stuff that annoys me about anime. And no, its not the subtle plots or story lines that seem to go on forever with no end in sight, its actualy the packaging and the end result that annoy me. That and the whole FCC ratings...I mean if I want something thats MA for Mature it damn well better be MA. Case in point:
Fencer of Minerva
A total snorefest to say nonetheless...on to the next one.
Quantity dosen't always mean quality. Oh man! I've suffered for this one. Take for example:
Gundress
and
Battleskipper
Sure, they have nice covers (a lil T & A never hurt anyone). The art work is also pretty nice. Theyre both very lengthy, sort of like movies. My mind set was "Hmm...If I get this stuff here I shouldnt really be dissapointed in it cuz I have more of it to see right? WRONG!
Both of their plots and story lines made me crawl into the proverbial corner for what seemed like days! Gundress had the occasional side boob every now and then but thast it! After that, its a variable snore fest filled with socio-political angst that just seems to dissapear into the air! In other words, I was pissed. But, Thank GOD for GITS SAC and second GIG!
Battle Skippers....Hmn, what can I say? This thing just plain sucked! Its all about a world gone awry and ofcourse the Battle Skippiers (who happen to be teen-age/adult girls going to school together) are the only ones who can ssave the freaking day...shit, 12 Bucks down the drain...
Wich brings me to my next point: The prices on anime are so damn high, that where gonna end up scrounging a the bottom of the barrel for the "best" deals we can get to get our fix.
Some opf them though are a diamond in the rough. That one-of-a-kind find that will make your day over and over again without regrets (1st season of Ranma 1/2 I kid you not, 12 bucks and the complete series of Gundamn 08th MS team 24 bucks! Thank God for that! ^_^)
Then there are the evil, vile horrors of the anime discount world. The tomes that should be locked into a vault strapped with a ton of plastic explosives and hurled into the sun.
Anyhoo,
Gasaraki
fall into that category for me.
In Gasaraki, its a story of an older brother that wants to become the Kai. A supreme being with almost unlimitless power. And will stop at nothing in order to get it...big freaking woop. Thats the story line from begining to end. No plot twists or character development, thats it. Just cut and dry stuff here...Its all good though. I guess thats just the small price to pay for being an anime junkie.
