Although my main intention was to brush up on my general Meryl Streep film knowledge, the movie reminded me of how much I like films about teachers who work through personal and professional turmoil to bring about positive change in their students' lives ("Stand and ( Read more... )

Details, details. But I know what you mean...she's also doing a bit of voice acting in that awful-looking CGI ants movie (as if we need another film to tell us that ants are the primary purveyors of comic relief in the insect world). However, I still think she can bring a certain sparkle to any role, even in the worst movies (Adaptation).

Ok. Two things, 1st: Do you think all the early 90's computer films were meant to introduce/ teach people about computers? Could they simply be a new way of telling old stories?

2nd: Have we ever had a conversation about the book "Middlesex" (Author: Jeffrey Eugenides)? I think we might have. Anywhoo, I just finished reading it (well, that's not true.. I have about 6 pages left). It's amazing. We should def. talk about it when We meet again.

Summer... WOO.

1st: I don't really think that introducing computers to the masses was the purpose of these films, but the directors were faced with the problem of showcasing technology central to their story without confusing audiences. This led to some hilarious visual interpretations of how a computer works...especially in Hackers, where the super computer's hard drive is a network of large glass towers where data can be read visually off the panes. Basically, I enjoyed how these movies attempted to make DOS more visually appealing and exciting to audiences who didn't (at the time) even know what DOS stood for.

2nd: We might have...I have been meaning to read it for a few years now. Don't spoil the ending. : )
