The ban on sexual matters is also observed fairly pedantically, though as time has elapsed Rowling has probably acquired male readers who find themselves having vaguely impure thoughts about Hermione Granger (if not, because the thing seems somehow impossible, about Ginny Weasley).

honey, hitchens is an idiot. i don't really know why places like slate and the nyt still give him space, he hasn't had a good point in a long time.

I actually tend to think he's pretty intelligent, at least in his literary criticism (a tad antiquated though he is in his tastes). And of the political commentary I've seen of him, when he's not drunk and going out of his way to offend people, he tends to be fairly cogent. His second-to-most-recent appearance on the Daily Show was one of few instances where I've actually seen people of differing opinions reasonably discuss Iraq.

back in the day, he wrote a quite nice book about orwell. i find his writing stodgy thoguh, and ever since he took that hard right turn he seems to be throwing sense out the window a lot more. and my understanding was that the 'drunk & offensive' thing was like 90% of the time these days.
