Grady. A longish story, a short life.

We first noticed them a little over five weeks ago. We were both leaving the house, early-ish, on a Saturday morning, when Andy noticed a movement around the woodpile behind the backyard shed. He yelled, "Hey, there's a little kitty back there!" Moments later, we noticed another little striped grey head, then yet another ( Read more... )

We are going to put out a trap for the two adult cats, then take them to get them fixed before putting them back out. It's a humane program that will hopefully keep (at least those two) from having more kittens...

I will call you this week! I only have two more weeks of school before Winter Break...

Thanks, Ace. I'd like to think anyone would do the same. I'm not even particularly a "cat" person, but I was really moved by thier plight. I can't stop thinking about that tiny little cat. In my lap, he weighed next to nothing, but I could feel his little heart beating when I held him.

What's amazing is this woman that took the other two kitties. She lives here in SP in a tiny house, and has essentially devoted her whole life and living space to rescuing and loving these cats until she can find homes for them.

I just was able to read your post. That is so sad. Makes me sadder, still, what with the weekend I had.

...animals really choke me up. I figure I'll always have a cat. When I thought Mangey was a goner, I was just a wreck.

Hope it gets better. I would've have done the same thing.

that made me cry.
i love black cats. i wish i could take in all of them.
i've always had black cats as a kid.
i'm really sorry about grady.
i'm so glad that the other cats were 'saved'.
this is why all cats should be fixed.
long beach even fixes all those wild cats and put them back (the ones who live at the beach).

I wish we could take them in, too, Suze...

I got a trap from a woman at the Science Center behind my school, and we're going to try to trap the older two cats on Sunday to get them fixed. My plan is to put them back out, too. They have been living out in the world for god knows how long, so I think they will be fine. I just don't want them having any more babies behind the shed.

There is a feral cat colony at White's Point in San Pedro, as well. As you walk along the rocks you see little plates of food that someone puts out for all the kitties...
