All through out history people have wanted what I have; if they only knew what it truly means they would be thanking whatever god's that they believe in that they aren't.
My Name is Jack Harkness and this is the story of how I became the way I am and what it really means.
It happened the fate-filled day that I first died. To this day I don't know for sure if the young girl and the time machine that made me this way really meant for it to happen. I do know that the being that they became that day was outside the scope of what the universe had known before. It was a day of death, changes and rebirth and all of it happened because of the love of a man who had lost so much to give the rest of us a chance - the Doctor.
I had only been traveling with the Doctor and his two lovely ladies a short time when it happened. Rose Tyler was barely twenty years old then and far the junior to all of us. Some days I wonder if she was ever really young, though. I know I saw her as a child years before we ever met, running and playing with her mates, but even then she was the one they turned to when adults weren’t around and things went pear shaped.
But I get ahead of myself.
The Doctor's other companion then, as always, was Verity. Verity was his even as he was hers; she was a grand lady, as much a one of a kind in the universe as the Doctor was when we first met. Verity was his home, not just figuratively either. Verity was a TARDIS, a time machine, a spacecraft and, most importantly, was a sentient being and was and older than all of us combined. Though she has never told me exactly how old she was, I was never in any doubt that the Doctor was but a youngster in her eyes.
But again I digress, and I promised you the story of how it happened.
