i don't understand how rat poison ends up
anywhere near the processing stream of pet
food in a factory :P sounds like foul play/
sabotage to me, at first glance.

The compound was probably already in the wheat when it arrived in this country, but we don't know for sure yet.

Aminopterin isn't allowed in the US, so I'm not sure how easy it is to obtain it here. I suspect its banned status is also the reason it took a week to find it. As I'm sure you're aware, looking for a toxicant means you need to know what you're looking for. No idea means you may not be looking, nor have a test ready to screen for it. I guess that eventually, things like GC makes it simpler, but I don't really know.

I really, really hope that this was NOT a case where an individual or a group of individuals deliberately brought this into action.
