Restrictions

All of this may seem restrictive, but it really isn’t. You have the opportunity to let your imagination go wild with what your character does and doesn’t believe.

As the game is played, additional spells, potions, events and things of that nature may be added to the list as seen fit by the mods.

There is no Ministry of Magic. Diagon Alley will not be closed off from Muggles and Wizards. If you wish your character to have a store in Diagon Alley, please let a mod know what type of store so we can determine if it is appropriate for the time. The following stores are at Diagon Alley: Gringotts and Olivander’s

The following have not been discovered:

Quidditch teams - there is a crude form of Quidditch but it is not a standardized sport by any means
Contraceptive potions/charms - See Rules section 4d for more info
Flooing - the Floo network has not been established yet
Patronuses
Riddikulus
Wolfsbane
Many healing spells and charms - this is a heavily potion based society but even those potions that are around are not as effective then as they would be in Harry’s day (ie pain potions and hangover remedies). Just keep in mind that anything remotely looking like modern science (even for the wizarding world) will not exist for another 700 years and superstition and folk tales are considered fact.

The following exist in some form or fashion:

Broomsticks - but they are probably no faster than horses and far less comfortable.

Apparition - does exist but it is in its infancy and still quite dangerous. People splinch themselves with far more frequency and when they do there is no way of mending them yet. So it is generally not used unless in extreme emergencies.

Animagi - do exist and have been around for quite some time, but that doesn’t mean that everyone can be one. In choosing to make your character one, please discuss it with a mod. We don't mind having people be animagi, but they must be old enough and smart to have mastered the talent and disciplined enough to put in the work for it. This talent in OUR cannon will mostly grow out of the tribal lore of the native peoples (the Picts, Icini, Celts, etc). Therefore, if you are of Norman heritage, it is UNLIKELY that you would be an animagi.

The Unforgivables (Avada Kedavra, Crucio and Imperio) - are not unforgivable at this time as there is no Azkaban to be sent to or even a Ministry of Magic to enforce their usage. They do exist and are probably widely used.
