IMMORTALS
There are two kinds of 'immortals'. One is the kind that drunk the original Wine of Immortality that was given to them by the devil, the other kind is the one that drunk the remade Wine by Barnes(who was ordered to do it by Szilard). There are three main differences between them:

1. Fake immortals cannot consume people.(the only way for a true immortal to die is for another immortal to place their right hand on their head and wish to 'eat them')
2. They are not bound by their true names.(true immortals cannot use their alias when another true immortal is nearby, fake immortals do not have to do so)
3. Fake immortals will age, and will die of it.(natural causes and 'consuming' are the only two ways to kill a fake immortal) Unlike true ones, whose face remains forever the time they drunk the Wine of Immortality, and will not die or age.

And it's hinted that their recovery rate is much more slower than a true immortal's.

The demon only taught Maiza how to make the immortality serum. Maiza passed on a partial serum to his friend who was then eaten by Szilard.

As a result Szilard made the partial serum and used it to found a secret society of people who, while they can't die from violence, will continue to age. (Or perhaps I got that backwards, I don't rember at the moment.) Szilard was not satisfied with this so he continued to hunt Maiza and also attempted to perfect the immortality serum.

In 1930 an alchemist working for Szilard perfected the immortality serum but because of an accidental fire created by 2 idiots, his laboratory burned down and he only escaped with 2 bottles of immortality. The alchemist lost the bottles to Dallas Genoard who then lost the bottles to the Gandors. The last we know of these bottles is that they were resting on a shelf behind the criminal's desk. Still unopened and undrunk.

At this time Luck, Firo, Isaac and others were not immortal yet. Somehow they end up drinking those two bottles of immortality serum. At this time the only immortal gangster is Maiza.

NOVEL DEPTH

Luck and Firo are really superficialized in the anime, I think for the sake of being the typical "cute" and "extreme-hot" characters. I'll put both in a nutshell: nutshell, according to the Gandor brothers, Firo is both super shy though you wouldn't guess it since he's usually in the company of those he's known since childhood, and he's very out of touch with his emotions. He can't bear to touch people intimately, or kiss, or anything like that. (Though he pretty much can touch Clare and Luck all he wants since he's grown up with them.) As for Luck, Luck is naive. It's hard to make it not sound like Luck is like... some little kid at heart, but he's naive and too open, so that's definitely not good when you're mafia.

"Y'know, my girlfriend likes jigsaw puzzles."

"Heh...that's good..."

"She likes those that are completely white. Putting hundreds of pieces together judging by their shape, and, after finishing, she likes to draw a picture on it. It might be a landscape, might be a self-portrait, or might be something ridiculously confusing."

...

"...nothing...well, my girlfriend and comrades are crazy about dominoes. Even if they put together a really awesome formation, they'll push them down the instant they finish it. What did they make it for anyway..."

"It's the same with life. Even if we know we're going to die one day, we'll have no choice but to enjoy life. No, because we know thath we're going to die, we can enjoy life....even then, there are way too many people who don't understand this..."

And Ladd apparently likes to break apart the jigsaw puzzles once Lua finished drawing them and to look at her sad and lonely expression.

'Girlfriend' is the word Firo used. Maybe they're in a kind of relationship already in the 1930s? But Ennis doesn't realize that?

Oh, it's basically Firo saying that Ladd's supposed 'girlfriend' is just a title, and that title doesn't mean anything and Ladd doesn't truly love her. At least not the normal kind of love.

What bothers me is Ladd's grey hair. He still had yellow-ish hair in 1931, so why is it suddenly gray in 1934? Boggles the mind. And apparently later, Firo tells him how to kill an immortal and Ladd just pondered on it for the rest of his time in jail, thinking about what he can do.
