Two requests: I'm looking for recs where Dumbledore is evil. Or where the concept of "evil" is questioned. Gen, het slash - any pairing really BUT Dumbledore's wickedness needs to be explored in depth. Alternatively I'll take essays on the subject. Preferably not written in teenyese or fanacademia ( Read more... )

I'm fairly certain there is a rule about this. Something about not mentioning either the design purpose or the relative lack of hygiene of "Severus' opening" during a sex scene?

*headdesk*

Jesus - if there isn't a rule, there should be.

*eyes dates* So, you're gonna whittle it down at both ends, eh? Great! I need someone to tell me which recent things to read! ;-D

Hell yeah. It's the only way I feel like I'm getting anywhere. Now the trick is to keep it up...

Thanks! It's invaluable, as usual. Pity I've read (or am reading) the things from here that I'd likely to find interesting, but I love reading your comments anyway (and I'm picking things for themed lists from your reviews of those fics that I wouldn't read myself :)

I agree about The Marked Man. It's not bad but it would be so much better if to cut all those unnecessary things. I've been thinking it as I've been reading it.

hee cool! I understand not reading them - sometimes when I write these the first draft of the review is: "Why? Why? Why? Why?!"

Question for you: I checked your lists (and your list of other people's lists) but didn't see a catagory for evil Dumbledore fic. I know that it must exist. Any ideas?

Heh, well, it's because if there's one plot that I hate, then it's evil/ueber-manipulative Dumbledore. I just can't stand it; it's my plot squick :) So I steadfastly refuse to make this list. Dunno if anybody else has done it. [oh, but of course there's an exception. There's actually one fic with evil D that I liked. But it was a short gen fic and it was way too clever to miss.]

Hello! Just making a quick rec before I go back to reading your recs :)

For a Dumbledore=evil fic, I could not suggest anything more than lightningwave's Sacrifice Arc. The title tells a lot about Dumbledore's principles. The arc is in its 6th book (the series is an AU that mirrors HPverse), and though it's a WIP, it's updated everyday (Everyday! Really!). The author has even plotted out a prequel arc to explore....okay, I'm getting carried away :P ( ... )

Dumbledore sighed and sank back in his seat, putting one hand over his face. Fawkes, the phoenix, gave a questioning trill from his perch, then flew over and landed on his friend’s shoulder when Dumbledore said nothing. He rubbed his warm head on the old wizard’s cheek until a hand rose to stroke him.

Sacrifices, Dumbledore was thinking as he gazed at the closed door of his office. We all make sacrifices, for the sake of lifting the burden from those who cannot bear it.

He was thinking of a young Gryffindor marked with a heart-shaped scar, and a young Slytherin with the Dark Mark branded on his arm swearing that he would turn against Voldemort and be loyal to the Light, and a young Slytherin with the heart of a Gryffindor.

And another Gryffindor, whom Dumbledore had watched, and pondered upon, and finally, against his will, chosen and explained a problem to. And that Gryffindor had made a sacrifice that still echoed down the years and troubled his mind to think of.

It was willing, Dumbledore thought, gently caressing Fawkes’s ( ... )
