God. I'm starting this on Cinco de Mayo which is like the World Tequila Marketing kick off day. I must be nuts. Or drunk. I bet it's like June or something before I finish this. Fuck it. Anyway. I think this: Do you suppose that Snape's role as a spy and Voldemort' s mastery of Leguimancy forces Snape to rearrange his own head to *stay* in that childish place so if Voldemort looks all he'll see is hate hate hate? is a really fucking cool idea, and not something I'd really thought of.
Um... that's all I got. I tend to do most of my exploration of Snape's psyche with fiction, so I don't often think about it in terms like that, and that sentence has really stuck with me.

This is part of my grand Theory of Snape.
It always bothered me that the memories in Snape's pensieve were awful and humiliating. It seemed that if he wanted to excise the memories - well, he could put them in a bottle, right? But that he had them out for viewing was either JKR being particularly ham-handed with the exposition *or* there was some need/reason for Snape to relive the very worst moments of his life. What made sense (to me at least) was that he was intentionally keeping himself there and using the pensieve as a tool to rearrange / control his thoughts and emotions. It fits with his emotional retardation and his bizarre Potter hatred.
