...While historians have been analysing the Great Conspiracy since Charles Grumman became Führer, little research has been done on the central figures involved in the affair due to a lack of useable information. The posthumous publication of the personal papers of both Edward Elric and his brother, Alphonse, however, has filled a bit of the void, providing intimate portraits of the personalities involved. Unsurprisingly, scholarly works about these individuals have increased greatly in volume since the availability of this information.

A considerable amount of this work has focussed on Edward Elric. Although Elric's role in defeating Father is common knowledge, details of his life after the foiling of the Great Conspiracy remained scant during his lifetime. Public awareness was generally limited to knowledge of his retirement from the military, obtainable from public records enquiries, and of his co-authorship of several influential treatises on alchemy with his brother. Thus, the publication of Elric's personal papers, along with those of his brother, have provided much insight into previously little known parts of his life.

To commemorate the 125th anniversary of Edward Elric's birth, this volume has brought together some of the most exciting research on Edward Elric since the publication of the so-called Elric Papers.
