Oh, this is sweet and sad. I like the rather spare style here, it fits quite well with the fic.

One thing: As a non-French speaker, I sorta wish there was a translation of the quotation at the beginning. I can parse it well enough based on cognates, but the bit in the middle gets too complicated for me. I would like to know exactly what it says, to fully understand the resonances of the rose's symbolism in their relationship.
