Wow, yeah, I just watched it and that was pretty intense. Thanks for recommending it. It was true that a lot of the MTF womens' stories were interesting. Though perhaps that was because the FTM stories were quite familiar to me already.
I think maybe because the focus on the FTM culturally were more about the restriction of gender roles, and the MFT was comfort levels in your own body?
I really liked the way they handled it though, the balance that the show holds throughout the whole time makes it that much more powerful I think.
That series has been around for a while. I found it repetitive often using the same footage for shows. I liked it at first. But, it seems to be more about sensationalizing the subject than bringing any real understanding to it. I was often offended by terms used to describe people who are different from social norms. I haven't seen the one on gender, but I will look for it to see if it presents people of gender variations in a better light than most programs. I also found that some of their information about a culture or item was dated. So, if you're going to watch the series do so with an open mind and be aware that not everything they say is proper or correct.
I tend to try and do that with anything, but with this series it was more that I liked the stories that it opened up to people.
Which may be why I enjoyed it. I ignore most of the narration and listen to what the people are saying instead, so the sensationalizing wasn't so much a focus.
That might just be from getting used to tuning out drama-llama friends I've had in life though ;)
Yeah, I agree with this. I came home from work one night to find my now-ex (to whom I was NOT out) watching whatever episode they did on trans males and I recall it being rather ucky. In general, such shows are full of cisfail.
