The 2011 version of my bedroom + a question.

Feb 17, 2011 09:15

Greetings
! My name is Jena, I'm a substitute teacher and I live at home with my parents (I'm lucky to have a great relationship with them so I choose to stay at home). I've posted my room here twice before in 2009 and 2010 so I guess this is becoming an annual thing.

I've made a few changes to my bedroom in the past year. I painted over the hideous bright blue with antique white, I've started to finish white-washing my walls, I ripped up that awful blue carpet that you may remember me complaining about in previous posts. I was pleasantly surprised to find the floorboards under my carpet in really good condition- - surprising since they got rained on quite heavily when the house was still being built. While my room was empty last weekend, I decided it was a perfect opportunity to move things around. The biggest change is that I repositioned my bed, but it has made a world of difference. I love it so much, I never want to leave. So I decided it was a good time to share my room with you guys.

Whilst looking at my pictures, can you please just note that this is a work in progress. My room is certainly not finished yet. I'm still working on white washing all my walls (the largest wall is intimidating!), I need to sand and stain/varnish my floors now, add skirting boards, there's little trims here and there that never got finished. But it's getting there. Slowly but surely.

My house is entirely made of Australia timber, pine to be exact. The walls, floor and ceilings are entirely constructed out of pine. It is a post and beam house. And just for the record: I really dislike the words 'wood paneling', it sounds ugly and 70's and bleh.

This is basically the view from the doorway. Ziggy says hello!

The lerberg shelf unit is a new addition

So is the micke desk! Can you tell I have an addiction?

That empty space under the window will probably have a book shelf at some point.

The wall behind my bed has recently been white washed, the wall behind the desk etc hasn't yet. The difference is far more pronounced in person.

The tiny bookcase is temporary.

I can't decide if this area is overly busy or not. I might take the string of postcards etc down.

My lovely floor <3

And some close ups:

My dressing table isn't as pretty anymore now that it's got my iPhone dock taking up all that space. I am thinking of buying a lack wall shelf from IKEA and putting it underneath the angled wall as a makeshift bedside table.

TV shows...

The 'to read' pile.

I am in love with my cozy little bed area.

I'm not happy with how this looks yet. Ugly printer is ugly. Within that little cozy corner is Ziggy's water bowl and one of her beds is going in there but I'd thrown it in the wash. She sleeps on my bed all the time anyway, little princess.

I am obsessed with RMS Titanic. Books, VHS, DVDs, my piece of Titanic coal, my boarding pass from the Titanic Artefact Exhibition and some coins. <3

Some of the lovely things my friends in Canada have sent me, my Yoshi plush and the fan I got from Club Nintendo.

My Johnny Depp movie collection, it's still pretty small but it's getting there. One of my Brownies. Most of my cameras are packed away in boxes :(

The books that were able to stay out of boxes, mostly favs and a couple from the 'to read' list.

I forgot to include a photo in this direction, it's certainly far from exciting though. Just my ugly closet doors and ugly fan. I can't really do anything to the sliding doors, nothing sticks to them.

I was getting snap happy at this point, sorry.

And here's a night time shot.

While I'm here, I also have a question. I have a gigantic cardboard box full of books and another smaller box full of little bits and pieces that don't have anywhere to go. I wanted to get an expedit bookcase from IKEA but it's too large to fit underneath my window. Then I found the biträde shelving unit which is exactly the right size. Also half the price. But does anyone know if this shelving unit can be placed horizontally like expedit can? My nearest store is 4 hours away, so I can't exactly just go have a look for myself. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Thanks for looking and new friends are always welcome!
