I'm currently working on an entry about Ariana turning one... Started it last week and got interrupted by kids waking from naps, followed by Easter long weekend craziness ( Read more... )

Raechelle, I am trying to figure out the best way to say all this without trying to sound like some sort of official, because I'm not. That said here goes ( ... )

I definitely appreciate your thoughts! You only saw Rylan for about a half hour, and that was on a good day. I think if you spent more time with us, you'd agree that there is something a bit 'off' with him. I know it comes across that I am over-exaggerating a bunch of little things about my son, but added up together and stretched over the last few years, I just can't ignore the niggling worries any further. I need to give voice to them and pursue some further insight and support. Any difficulties we can work through now, while he's still young, will help us prevent or soften difficulties to come later during the school years... But if our referral to this Early Intervention Program comes back saying that he is not far enough outside of the normal range, I will still feel better for having that feedback and knowing that I at least investigated some avenues...

Yes, I second the food allergy possiblity, after dealing with it so severly with baby Kellan. I thought something was seriously off with Kellan. We were exploring a diagnosis sensory integration disorder. But, in fact, he had severe food allergies.

Also, my boss's son is "on the sprectrum", i.e. autistic. But, a huge number of his symptoms are mediated by a diet appropriate for him (wheat-free, milk free, egg free in his case). Now, he's still "on the spectrum" but his diet improved his self-stimulation behavior enough that he goes to public school.

You guys have given me food for thought, for sure! I can't imagine how we'd make it without wheat and milk in his diet (limited repertoire as it is),but worth looking into...

So glad that you were able to get to the bottom of Kellan's food allergies so quickly and while he was still so young!!!!

hmmm... some food for thought here. He doesn't really have creases under his eyes, at least that I've noticed. Will pay closer attention to that, and the ears reddening... He gets red all over when he gets hyped up, as he's usually running around like a crazy person! Never heard of food sensitivities being expressed that way, but intriguing and worth looking into. In his limited food repertoire, carrots and wheats are mainstays for him. Carrots are pretty much the only veggie he eats, so he has them almost every day. I know I had food allergies/intolerances when I was younger, so I will look into it!

Oh, please don't blame yourself. You know I was disappointed with the second ultra-sound as well. Another boy? How could I handle that? But, it didn't harm Kellan (well, I really don't think his food allergies came because of my sense of disappointment). Doesn't mean I don't love him to pieces, but your feelings are normal. Don't blame yourself. And TV? And Diet Coke? I work in a lab! Diet coke would be nothing compared to my exposures! Please, don't blame yourself ( ... )

Thank you for all your comments. My employment layoff is giving me the opportunity to stay home and really focus on working with Rylan this next year or so, in hopes he will be ready to start Kindergarten 'on time'. I've signed him up for a co-op preschool for September where I will be working in the classroom once or twice a month, so will really be able to see how he does with our kids in that environment ( ... )
