Autism??? Really? Continued denial would just be so much easier...

Once again, I am absolutely emotionally DRAINED. Parenting an atypical child is not for the weak, to say the least. Today I was given some MORE new information to process, so I'm back at the keyboard to get some of my thoughts written out, in hopes of releasing some of what is rolling around in my crazy-momma head...  I just do NOT do well when I ( Read more... )

:-( I am so sorry you are having to go through all of this. I can imagine that even though you had the feeling, just seeing it on paper makes it that much worse.

It sounds like he's making great progress though and I bet once you have all these great resources to help you out, he's going to blossom even more!!

Try to keep your head up and know things will be okay. *hugs*

Awwww Raechelle..........from someone going through a "special need" I can understand how emotional and also frustrating it can be. I of no means am saying I know what you are going through....2 completely different things.
I wish I knew what to say. It IS great that Rylan IS doing so well compared to the lack of progress he was showing for quite some time. So that most DEFINITELY is a positive thing!!!
I hope Rylan exceeds all expectations! He is such a happy little boy, that you can see for sure! No matter what, Rylan will always love you and everything you do for him!

Huge hugs!!!!!

so sorry you're having to deal with this. I have seen so many parents go through the same emotions/thoughts you're going through. It sounds like you have a great level-headed outlook about what is best for Rylan and addressing his needs. Remember that ASD is just a label for the symptoms that kids are already exhibiting - it doesn't change who he is or what he's capable of, and if anything opens some doors that before weren't open. Keep your positive attitude - it sounds like he's making great gains!

Raechelle, you are such an amazing mom. Any of us would feel overwhelmed and MORE THAN FRUSTRATED with the spin-the rotors and go hide to poop. You are handling this so well.

ASD or otherwise delayed: if a diagnosis gets you the help he needs, all the better. My previous boss's son is on the autism spectrum. He is an absolutely wonderful 11 year old boy. His mom never went back to work at her previous job (research biochemist) but instead devoted her life to helping their son nutritionally (she is now a certified dietician/nutrionist). His diagnosis was life changing for them, but it hasn't ended up badly. I'm not trying to minimze the seriousness of ASD, but really, they have quite a wonderful life, a huge garden and joyful son.

A lot of great stuff coming from Rylan! Way to go little dude :)

It's quite the challenge having a kid who is so different from his peers- I totally understand those frustrations. *hug!!*
