Kingsley's Steak and Crabhouse

Contrary to most reviews, I did not enjoy my dinner experience at Kingsley's Steak and Crabhouse. Hailed as Canberrans favourite food-joint, it promises juicy steaks, ribs as well as seafood. From the first time I heard about it, I was super keen in trying it out, because I never say "No" to BBQ ribs goodness! We finally went when E's little brother came to visit us back in July. The BIL and I watched "Man vs Food" episodes on youtube the night he came, and he mentioned that he loved ribs - this is coming from someone who eats like a bird and would chose a tub of lollies than "proper" food! :) Hence why I suggested Kingsley's Steak and Crabhouse.

While I waited for the boys to arrive, I had their Lychee Martini cocktail (it was Happy Hour). The waitress said that it was her favourite and that she highly recommended it. Lychee being one of my favourite fruit, I ordered one and it cam quite swiftly. It was strong (which means they didn't skimp on the alcomohol like some places do) and came with 2-3 juicy lychees. I can say that it was one of the best cocktails I've had in life so far (including the cocktails I had at the Great Keppel Island, QLD).

When the boys arrived, and happy with the cocktail, we made our orders. BIL and I shared a full rack of Bourbon BBQ Baby Pork Spare Ribs, and a side of Hot Szechuan Peppered Chicken Wings with Habanero chilli, lime & tequila dip for me. E had their Black Angus Top Sirloin 150 day grain-fed, triple trimmed. The Ribs came with big chunky chips, so did the steak.

Our ribs came dry and way too cooked. The Bourbon sauce tasted more like cheap BBQ sauce splashed with cheap Bourbon. It is no where near as nice as the ribs we could have had at the take-away American Food place near our place! At half a price!!! Disappointingly, the chips had the slight undercooked taste and there were only around 5-6 of them on the plate.

E's steak was the size of half an avocado and again, only around 5-6 chips - still disappointing, even knowing that it is triple trimmed. E was offered sauce to go with his steak and he opted for the Horseradish sauce (yes, I do have a husband with weird taste in food - luckily it worked for him!) - charged at $4!

The chicken wings were alright, they were nothing special - KFC hot wings are perhaps quite comparable to these, at a fraction of the cost!

I dont know why restaurants with small servings would use such massive plates! Our meals came on such big plates that our meals looked even smaller! Our 5-6 chips looked quite pathetic with all the space on the plates! If it was my restaurants, I would use small plates, enough to leave 1cm border of plates to serve my meals! Or is that just me?

Overall, the three of us were not happy with the quality of the food that we had - more so when considering the price we paid for them! I might go back to Kingsley's Steak and Crabhouse if I had a voucher for at least 15% discount, just so that I could try their other meals, but highly unlikely that I will.
