Shit.
The shockingly gorgeous man with the ridiculously large biceps that Elyan had spent half the night staring at was walking towards him.
Elyan had learned from Arthur - who had caught Elyan shamelessly ogling his party guest from across the room - that the man’s name was Percy and he was a friend of Arthur’s from work. Arthur had all but actually pushed Elyan across the room to introduce himself, and when Elyan had refused Arthur had threatened to tell Percy that he had a fan. Elyan had threatened to cut off Arthur’s dick while he slept if he did so.
“It’s New Year’s Eve Elyan, it’s the perfect excuse, take a couple more shots and then get your arse over there and give him a midnight kiss.”
Elyan had just nodded and mumbled something about how horrible of a friend Arthur was before going to refill his drink. Then he had spent the next hour chatting with friends and stealing looks at Percy from across the room. The man had a brilliant smile, his whole face lit up when he laughed. He could have been terrifying, all that bulk and muscle, but when Percy smiled you wouldn’t have thought he was capable of hurting a fly. Elyan had been gathering his nerve to go over and talk to him all night, rehearsing lines in his head, but never managing to take more than a couple steps across the room.
And now Percy was walking over to him. And now he was standing right in front of Elyan. And Elyan immediately forgot everything he had planned on saying.
“Hey,” said Percy with a smile. “I’m Percy.” He held out his hand to Elyan who stared at it for a moment before shaking it.
“Oh hi, I’m Elyan.”
“I know,” said Percy with a wink. “I did a little investigating after I caught you staring at me.”
Elyan blushed, hard. “What? Um…I wasn’t…I’m sorry…I-”
“Its ok,” said Percy, cutting him off, “I only noticed because I was watching you too.” He laughed, “In a less creepy way than it sounds.”
“Oh,” said Elyan, not quite sure what else to say.
“So how do you know Arthur and Merlin?” asked Percy.
“You didn’t find that out during your investigation?”
Elyan was rewarded with a smile. “No, just got your name, I thought I’d get the rest straight from the source.”
“Well, I went to school with them, actually I knew Arthur before they even met.”
“Really, wow. I’m surprised we haven’t met before then, these two throw a ridiculous number of dinner parties.”
“They really do,” Elyan paused. “I’m kind of surprised they haven’t tried to set us up yet either, Merlin’s really big on matchmaking.”
“Arthur may have mentioned once or twice he had a friend he thought I’d like.” Percy smiled again and Elyan felt his heart drop into his stomach. He could feel the blush creeping back up his face.
Elyan was about to reply when Arthur’s voice rang out above the chatter of party guests.
“It’s time to start the countdown! Ready? 10 - 9 - 8 -”
Percy took a step towards Elyan so their toes were almost touching -
“7 - 6 - 5 - 4 -”
Elyan looked up and Percy smiled down at him leaning in slightly -
“3 - 2 -”
Elyan could feel Percy’s breath warm on his face, Percy’s eyes were shining and Elyan could feel his own lips curling into a smile -
“1 - “
And the room broke out into cheers and shouts of “HAPPY NEW YEAR,” and confetti rained down from the ceiling, but Elyan didn’t notice any of it, because suddenly Percy was kissing him and wrapping those enormous, strong arms around him and pulling him in close.
When Percy pulled away, long after a traditional midnight kiss should have ended, they were both breathing hard and Elyan was happy to see a bit of a blush dusting Percy’s cheeks.
Percy leaned in close again and whispered in Elyan’s ear.
“I think Arthur was right, I’m liking this friend of his.”
Elyan just smiled up at him and pulled him down for another kiss. It was New Year’s after all.
