bad day...buy books

Dec 29, 2003 19:28

I have discovered that I cheer up remarkably well if I let myself purchase books on obscure topics. So today, I got a book on Fitting patterns to larger bodies, and another on the Triangle Shirtwaist fire. Hopefully that will help.

Ooo. What was the title on the Triangle Shirtwaist fire? It's a topic I've always meant to get around to reading more about. I hope you post a review.

(Er, does it explain it if I mention that I was, breifly, a Civil Engineering major, and I spent a semester with my nose in the fire codes?)

I wasn't looking for an explanation. I have an extreme fear/love relationship with fire...and a love of history...does that explain the variety of books on my shelves about major fires throughout history? (Including a very interesting one about the CT Circus Fire).

The title is "Triangle: The Fire That Changed America". As I am getting it from Amazon (thanks to a lovely uncle who gives wonderful x-mas gifts. And feels guilty for some reason.), I won't have it for a few days.

However, I will be willing to lend it out once I have finished with it, if you are interested.

the title is 'Sewing for Plus Sizes: Creating Clothes that Fit and Flatter', by Barbara Deckert.

I have been sewing for 14 years, about half spent solely on clothing construction. I have a fair idea what I am doing, but as I had taught myself, I never learned how to alter a pattern before I cut it out. I have always done that during the last stages.

Reading through the book, it is a really good book. Goes over fabric types & choices, which fabrics are good for certian types of garments, etc. All sorts of infomation. Best part is, the author is, for lack of a nicer term, plus sized herself, so it doesn't come out all holier than thou, which is nice.
