I firmly believe the web2.0 phenomenon has a general purpose of saturating the general populace with thousands of inane updates about people one barely knows (if at all).

As a result, eventually one will just get sick of it all and hate everybody, allowing the $conspiracy_theory_groupoftheweek to further their power.

Which of course is why the majority of 'geeks' don't get what all the fuss is about. We already hate everybody, so the point is moot. ;-)
