The sound becomes a rustling, becomes a louder rustling, and then becomes a tall dark bay warhorse with a rider atop, armourless but with a sword at his side.
He reaches for the sword, hand resting on the hilt, but then his eyes widen in clear confusion. "Robin of Locksley?"
This is just too much for Much who stalks towards the horse, "Who wants to know?" His frustration making him more foolhardy than Robin has ever seen him. (Foolish he can be perhaps but foolhardy has always been Robin's department.)
"Much," Robin said hurriedly. "This is Ser Silence of Cornwall - he's a friend of mine and Marian's and he serves King Richard." Much does not look convinced, which is why Robin does not add their other relationship. He does not know if Marian has said the child was his or if Much has assumed it. What other explanation could she give but he would not put it past her to give none. Or the truth as little believed as it seems to be.
"This is Much," he said to Silence with a helpless look.
"Peace, segnor," Silence says, but keeps his hand near the swordhilt. He would prefer to speak with Robin without company, but in the current moment, it seems unlikely.
"Well he hardly matters." Much said in his unusual ungracious way. "Your daughter is four months old and without her mother."
"Much," Robin grated out. "I'm here now, and Silence will gladly help us rescue Marian from the castle." He pauses a moment, "and I'm sure he's eager to meet his goddaughter." It was the best he could do in the circumstances and he tried to convey this to Silence in a look.
Much complained all the way back to camp and when Robin tried to send him on ahead to warn everyone of his return it only got him a rather filthy look.
