The answer is 'Yes'. All that sepparates us from the other species of animals is our ability to use symbols to represent abstract thoughts and feelings. Lets use a simple example. The number four. "4" of course means nothing. "four" means nothing. "4", "four","四", "τέσσερα" all essentially mean nothing. They are tools which we use to symbolize an idea. Our ability to do this is the sole thing which makes us intelligent beings
