This reminds me of what Drew Barrymore's quote in He's Just Not That Into You:
Mary: I had this guy leave me a voicemail at work, so I called him at home, and then he emailed me to my BlackBerry, and so I texted to his cell, and now you just have to go around checking all these different portals just to get rejected by seven different technologies. It's exhausting.
It's still a brave new world out there, so you can take solace/fear in the fact that there's no "established" protocol. The downside of quick and immediate communication devices are that they can lead to boom and bust effects that wreak havoc on our brain. With snail mail (even e-mail) and the telephone, you either had to think what you were going to say beforehand or at least bumble through enough voice communication to leave an impression (good or bad!) Texting requires little though and planning, and is often done in the heat of the proverbial moment, and Facebook (or any social networking site) opens a semi-permanent line of communication that makes it feel like you're connected but doesn't actually require you to ACT
( ... )
I mean, the boy was cute, and a good kisser, and displayed most definite interest but at the end of the night I was like "Heyy, it would be totally cool if he called but it is zero skin off my back if he doesn't" and also when I facebooked him and saw he had 1500 friends I had a really bad DOOOOUUCCCHHHEEE alarm go off in my head. But I may also be stereotyping or soemthing. I mean, in the end Im probably gonna let this lie, and he's free to make a move if he should care to, I'm not really in any position to waste breath chasing guys.
But hey, thanks for your well-thought out response and your advice which totally was solicited, being that I posted it on LJ :-D (and, hey! Friending you back!)
