March approaches

For February, I was seized by the theme of a tomboy for the Playelf of the month. I admit, I was tempted to stay away from gender issues in a fantasy setting, but then figured it was worth thinking about (plus, I learned how to do a really nifty oil/dirt pattern on top of another existing texture - didn't want to over use it, so I only did a couple ( Read more... )

Hmmmm... what about the concept of generations? (Mother/Daughter, perhaps... or two sisters?) How would that play out?

Could you play with ethnicity or culture? Are all elves from the same heritage? Are they all the same race? (St. Patrick's Day makes me think of this) Do they all have the same religion? (If so, do they have priestesses? Is it pagan? What are their celebrations--- anything vaguely Easterlike?)

I'll try to think of more themes/raid my own Idea Box for you. But there's two for a start.

PS. Would elves have a cosmetics industry? If they are "immortal", do they have the same lust for youth as we do- or would age + wisdom go hand in hand and be respected/revered like they were/are in some native cultures...?

PS. Let me know if I'm on the right track for helping and if not, how I can get on your wavelength. Personally, I think a lot and work very hard on the "societal" aspects of fantasy--- my sociology background in action--- so it thrills me to be able to possibly discuss our respective creations in this context. :)

You're pretty much bang on what I'm looking for. I've gone with slightly modified D&D elves, which are in turn slightly modified Tolkien elves, which are in turn slightly modified Norse elves ( ... )
