Has anyone ever done a team-building exercise that was worthwhile?

If so, details!

Worthwhile?
Enjoyable yes:
We did a 1/2 day helping dogs for the disabled build an assult course for the dogs to train on (the other half a day was managers talking to us). The building stuff did get us to work together & get to know others & was enjoyable so I suppose it lived up to it's title.

Ta - alot of the office have already dug their heels in about any form of physical activity, but I'll ask Will (or maybe pop over for a demo!)

Useful for the team? or to the wider world?
I felt alot better about donating the team time to community projects than spending a fortune doing corporate activities....

Useful as it brought the team closer together - not bothered if its in or out of the office, but would like to try and find something that people wouldn't cynically snort at from day one

Black Friday. Builds the team dynamic network everytime.

Plus it supports the local Kebab industry.

I've done once that focused on team abilities like the Myers Briggs and the Belbin tests which were useful and also ones where we tried to list all the activities that our team did that were good to understand what people contributed and were good at.

Belbin is the one for teams, it's a set of questions that you do and then process then and it identifies what sort of role your best suited to in a team.

We did a morning of brainstorming activities that our team did, everything from ordering new stationery to presenting to other departments, and organising team meetings then in the afternoon we did the Belbin test and then matched what jobs we had to each other.

It was mainly a really good way of dragging out of people what they thought about how our team worked and who did what and how we could help each other.

We also played on a giant seesaw, did a treasure hunt and some sort of crossword puzzle.
