To make us nervous, to make us guilty. Not sure. But if the deities' power tends to be limited in this 'world', I don't see how they'd have the ability to destroy someone else's.

Well I'd put a lot of stock in their deceptions at this point. It's the most common constant here - illusions, tricks.
