Five songs musical experiences.

Red Elaters School - Drum piece
Brilliant drumming. There are about a dozen of them, and they've tuned their carapaces to be instruments as well, so at different points in their playing they turn and drum on each other's bodies. If it doesn't make you dance, you probably don't have a body.

Unknown - Curtain Point Cave
On the seashore east of the mouth of the River Arha is Curtain Point, named because of the wavy shape of its cliffs. In the stone cliff face are hundreds of holes of different sizes, and when the wind blows in off the ocean, it sounds like a choir of ghosts. I sat there for hours one night, just listening to it in the moonlight, and it took about a week for the goosebumps to go away.

Mango and Sleet - "You're Goin' Down"
I've never quite understood the whole eating-people-as-a-kink thing. But somehow Mango and Sleet manage to make it sound fun, in an adorably corrupt sort of way, with a sultry Mango slithering around nervous little Sleet, declaring in her earthshaking growl, "I've had a taste of you, darlin', now you're goin' down." I saw it at their latest show at the Cabaret in Downbottom, where they did it as the finale (for obvious reasons).

Sansamiat - "Mother Of Science"
From Sansamiat's series of pieces constructed from sounds from the point of view of the warp Statues. Up has never been my favorite place, but there's something oddly intimate and soothing about hearing it transformed like this, with fragments of hushed voices echoing in the distance.

Traditional - "Gratt O'Rotor"
I remember the first time I heard the old ballad of the runaway bulldozer on the Ballard Freeway, before I knew what a bulldozer or a freeway was. It was all mysterious and wonderful then, and it still makes me smile.
