Playing characters who have no idea of 21st-century Earth pop culture is half the fun of Puzzlebox for me, sometimes. It's so nice to know that if anyone starts talking about the latest videogame or movie I can politely tell them to shut up. Although I have to admit that Sosael once quoted a line from a Talking Heads song. But "Blood is a special substance, no dust, no rocks" is the sort of thing she'd say anyway!
I try to give my characters distinctive modes of speech too; I don't always succeed - Twin is more prone to speak 'normal English' as (she)'s a generally coherent creature. (She)'s variable enough that I can get away with it, though, especially if (she) goes all unsynched and distant now and then. I lose track of (her) preferred circumlocutions sometimes, though.
I've been enjoying Amanita's backstory so far. Also, she's much cuter than Steerpike.
