our company does an annual "focal review" process. affectionately (or not) known, around here, as the "fecal review."

as usual, i put my self-assessment off until the absolute last minute. last year that tactic worked so well that i never got around to doing it at all, and my then-manager - who also thinks this process is crap - just made shit ( Read more... )

Heh - when I was at Cisco I did one of those things exactly the same. I reviewed my email for the last year so I could remember what the hell I did. How else does anyone remember what you do in a year?

yup. i file my email in inbox-folders by "YYMM $engagement", so it makes a pretty good retrospective for junk like this...

Go you! And yes, I understand the need for a shower. I just finished up my required Intro to Management course. The stomach, it churns.

oh gods, i hate doing these. apparently the HR system our new corporate overlords use is somewhat less awful (peoplesoft) than the horrorshow we use (exceed) - if nothing else comes out of the merger, that at least will make me a happy camper.

this year was remarkably less painful than previous have been, in part because i decided to make it into an exercise in seeing what i could get away with. :)

also, i don't know exceed, but we use peoplesoft, and - as such things go - it doesn't suck much.

Oh Jeez, those are such total and utter bullshit. And yes, any half-way decent manager should be able to evaluate you without your having to write the whole thing up.

I swear to Bob, I'm like one of two actually really smart people in my office.
The managers are all old mail carriers (literally) who stumbled into their jobs.

Except the manager. He used to be a cop, so I try not to piss him off as much.
