looking for a contact in CS at U of Victoria, BC

May 07, 2009 22:50

one of my friends from the TCG is playing six degrees of internet separation - he's looking for anyone in CS (grad student, professor - IT staff would probably even do in a pinch) at the University of Victoria in BC. i'd love to be a hop in his route - can anyone hook us up? :)

Bruce and Amy Gooch are faculty there. I don't know them well enough for an introduction, but my connection with them is that they both taught at Northwestern for a few years. I got my undergraduate degree there, although I graduated a few years before they arrived.

Talking about 6 degrees, I didn't know you kept an LJ. Or knew Ovrclockd.

As I do some more research it's even better than that. Bruce Gooch has written papers with my summer intern from last year and the student who's coming from UNC to work with me this summer.

My distance from him is therefore 2. What's the hop count from your friend to you?

1 or N, depending on how you measure it. (I met him at a mixer for my standards group, so I either know him directly, or through all the people in the standards organization. :) )

Jack Snoeyink at UNC used to work at U Vancouver BC, and may well know people there; I think Kyle knows him better than I do.

i just sent my friend five different one- or two-hop connections (got a couple more through work), so i don't think it's really necessary to reach out to the three-hops. but thanks very much for the suggestion!
