I’M NOT GOING ANYWHERE

Mitchell was curled up beneath the blankets in his bed. His eyes were closed but George knew by his breathing that he wasn’t sleeping

George stood in the doorway watching his friend. He hated to see Mitchell like this. Mitchell was broken. He was bad after the other vampires were killed but he completely withdrew into himself after Annie was taken from them. George sighed, he had no idea what to do for his friend, how to help him. The only thing he could think of was to give him comfort. Let him know someone still cared for him.

George stepped around the bed and, lifting the bedclothes and slid into bed behind Mitchell. Pressing his chest to Mitchell’s back he draped his arm over Mitchell’s waist and took his hand intertwining their fingers.

Mitchell let out a shuddering sigh, “I miss her so much.”

“I know” George whispered, “and I promise you Mitchell, we will do everything we can to get her back”. George pressed a kiss to the back of Mitchell’s neck. “I want her back just as badly.”

“I’m scared I’ll lose you to.”.

The words were spoken so softly that if George hadn’t been lying right behind him he would not have heard them. George tightened his hold on Mitchell,
“I’m not going anywhere,” George whispered gently, stroking Mitchell,s bare shoulder, “not for a long time if I have anything to do with it.”

Mitchell turned in George’s embrace and laid his head on George’s chest, listening to the comforting sound of George’s heartbeat. A single tear trickled down his face onto George’s warm skin.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered brokenly “for everything. The man I want to be, the man I once was…is slipping away from me and I don’t know what to do to stop it. I’ve become a monster.

George carded his fingers through Mitchell’s hair. “He’s still in you, Mitchell. He just needs to be coaxed out again.”

Mitchell shook his head, his hair tickling George’s bare chest, “no, he’s lost forever.”

George placed his finger under Mitchell’s chin and tilted his head up so he could look into his eyes. “I can see him when I look in your eyes Mitchell, those aren’t the eyes of a monster.” George smiled gently, “I’ll help you and together we will bring him back.”

Mitchell’s eyes brimmed with unshed tears, “I don’t deserve you George, I don’t deserve someone as good and kind as you to be my friend.”.

George pulled Mitchell down so his head was again resting on George’s chest.

“That’s the thing about love Mitchell, it’s unconditional.” George stroked his hand up and down Mitchell’s arm. “When you love someone, no matter what they do, no matter how bad it is; you stand by them.”
George stared at the ceiling, both of them silent for long moments. Then George sighed.
“I know what you are going to do Mitchell, what you have to do.”

Mitchell tensed in George’s embrace..

“Just…..just promise me something?” George’s breath hitched “once you’ve stopped Herrick, if…..if you survive, promise me you’ll find me, that you’ll come back to me.” George swallowed hard, trying to control his own emotions, “because I don’t want to lose you either.” George let a tear slide down his cheek.

“I promise,” Mitchell rasped out. “It will be the thought of returning to you that will keep me going.”Mitchell curled into George’s side. “George,” He whispered “stay with me tonight. Please

George ran his fingers lovingly through Mitchell’s hair. “I’m not going anywhere Mitchell.”

The End.
