I'm always intrigued no matter how many times I read the GN and watch the movie to find myself thinking about this. Rorschach has such a black & white view on the world that people seem to forget he has a "human" side under the mask, no matter how much he tries to hide it. It's also mind bending to watch how Daniel can go from that homey kind of man to a vengence seeking crazy when he wants too. The bar scene shows us how quickly, and simply, the roles can not so much reverse but how their morals can be the same in the end.

I'm not sure if I made an ounce of sense with my mind's wanderings.
