I put it to you, everyone who reads my posts - how would a crossover between the Vorkosigan Saga and the Addams Family work?

Not asking for fic, just speculation!

Hmmmm........ the Addamses were a Vor family before the huge mutagenic thing, and when some of their family started coming up 'muties' they were far enough in the boondocks that they decided to put family before society(typically Addams attitude *g*) and cut themselves off from everyone and everything.

They pretty much disappeared from the world, and very few people who went into their 'old, haunted' lands ever came back, so most people just assumed it was haunted/irradiated/whatever. Now that the planet is getting back in the galactic swing of things, they've decided to re-establish contact.

Either that or Miles ends up on their land accidentally and almost dies several times. And then has to deal with the Addamses. He's not sure if he should be shocked or dying from hilarity at how much the 'presumed extinct, venerated Vor-addams' family is about to turn the entire collective of Vor families on their head.

Oh, how I would love to see Lord Gomez VorAddams unleashed upon Vorbarr Sultana... Manically amiable, prone to handing everyone cigars, and just so gosh-darn friendly... Then again, Lady Alys would probably - well, meet her match in Lady Morticia VorAddams. And the children, oh, the children...

Maybe the Addamses could have been the Counts of an (extremely sparsely populated!) Distinct, one that was, as you've said, 'out in the boondocks'; the ancient VorAddams chair in the Council of Counts has been kept empty as a memorial, of sorts, to a (supposedly) long-dead, highly venerated family. I'm tempted to say that it was one of the areas that got nuked during the Cetaganda occupation; maybe the radiation levels have finally gone down enough for a 'proper' investigation thereof.

Oh! And the VorAddams are related to the VorBarras in an extremely, extremely, distant way - there was a VorAddams daughter who married into the VorBarra line about five years into the Time of Isolation, or something (which would, you have to admit, explain a ( ... )

Sadly, I know enough about the Vor books to do big strokes of colour, but not the small details.

*snerk* Although yes, seeing the Vor try to politically maneuver the VorAddamses would be hilarious. I know who I'm betting on, too. XD

I can also see Miles being deliriously happy because now there are weirder people than him, so they're taking the heat and the spotlight off of him. especially compared to Cousin It. Or, oh wow, Thing. (...how would Thing work, anyway? Or should we just not ask? O_o ) Heck, they make Betans look almost 'normal' (read 'Vor').

Most of everything I know about the Vor books comes either from Wiki or reading a lot (and I mean a lot) of fanfiction.

...the thing is? If, as I suggested, a VorAddams daughter married one of the first Vorbarra emperors (thus making the VorAddams related to, but not in line for the Throne), then they're related to the current Vorkosigans as well (Miles had a Vorbarra grandmother, as did Ivan).

Meaning that no, Miles, you're not off the hook - you've just got a lot of whole new cousins who insist on greeting you with bear hugs and enthusiastically claim you as family and are deliciously proud of all your wonderful chaos! Seriously, Miles is normal in comparison... Though the Addams are liable to cheerfully eviscerate anyone who insults/threatens family... I can just see Wednesday tugging someone's sleeve and seriously inquiring as to why duels are illegal, because she wants to have one right now.

...you know, we need to find someone to write this... Not trying to push you to do so, I'm just saying that this is such a fun idea!
