Well, as if I haven't had a hard enough time in the last few days, our brakes felt funny coming in to drop me off this morning. Thus Hubby took the car in for a closer look. Master cylinder is shot, and it would take $1,500.00+ to get it back to road-worthy. The car wouldn't even be worth that much after the fixes. Therefore we are not without ( Read more... )

That sounds really high for just a master cylinder. If you're looking for a second opinion, we (and a few other people in the cities) have used Sage's. Here's a link to a map, phone number, etc. They're reliable and pretty cheap as far as mechanics go.

Thanks for the link...we had been meaning to ask someone about where that place is. Unfortunately, it wasn't just the master cylinder, it was the rear cylinders the front brake calipers are seized, and the right front ball joint is shot as well.

But at least we have the info for the next car.

Honey, I am so sorry that your car picked now to die on you. I know how good it feels to be finally starting to see light at the end of the tunnel. Is hubby at all mechanically inclined? Most of the cost of the master cylinder is labor if I remember correctly. Maybe he could do it himself?

I'm the one that is mechanically inclined, but am no longer able to physically do that kind of thing. Besides, it was more than just that. But that was all my husband could spit out cohereantly at the time of the first phone call.

We are reniting a car for a week, so that we have a bit of time to plan our next move.
