I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the loveliness of your day.

I've been noticing the changing colors on my way to work, but the color palette looks subdued. Do you think it will become more striking?

Possibly. The colors are due to sugars getting trapped in leaves - a cold night will pinch off the stem from the tree - and fermenting during warm days. Yet sugar production is adversely affected by drought and fall colors aren't usually as intense during dry years. As it's currently supposed to be "peak season" for color, I'm thinking the drought trumped the weather, but the abnormally hot weather lately could simply have delayed the turning. In short, I know a lot of things that could affect foliage color, and not a clue which ones will actually win out.
