Windows 10 Upgrade notices to change.. for the better?

So, looks like Microsoft might be returning a wee bit to sanityIt's amazing how eager a company can be to please it's user base. All it took was a year of complaints, several third party programs developed to block Windows 10, alienating a large portion of their userbase causing a boost to Linux and Apple computers around the world, and a wee ( Read more... )

Oh yeah, this is way way way too little, way way way too late. The fact that they thought it was a good idea to do all that shit at all to begin with, regardless of whether they're backpedaling on it now, has already irreparably harmed their reputation as far as I am concerned (not that they had a sterling reputation with me even before, of course). In my eyes, the backpedaling is less "we're listening to the customer feedback now" and more "it's too bad our previous scuzzbucket tactics got found out and now we have to pay lip service to not being scuzzbuckets anymore while trying to find stealthier ways to be scuzzbuckets in the future."

And yeah, they are definitely still "republishing" (i.e. unhiding) the Win10 related updates after they've been hidden multiple times, at least as of two days ago anyway.

Also corresponding to the end of the free trial we get news of this. Essentially, while Microsoft denies it has anything to do with "consumers windows", having an admin tool in the next preview edition of Windows 10 called "updatesubscription.exe" is kinda hinting towards the whole "Windows as a Service" subscription model people (like myself) tend to predict ( ... )

Wouldn't surprise me the tiniest bit. We've been seeing people predicting that Win10 would become a paid subscription service for several months now.
