"Adjusted for Inflation" Idiocy

I find that when people are trying to justify highly increased prices on goods or services, they'll often bring in inflation to prove "Oh no, it's not more expensive than it use to be, it's actually a LOT cheaper ( Read more... )

Yeah, I was going to say that wages are a thing that are lagging way behind the inflation curve, but you mentioned that already. (And if it were up to fucking Trump's stupid ass, they'd be even lower than they already are, at least in the US anyway.)

As for me, outside of the very rare exception (of which I can't currently think of a single one), I'm no longer willing to spend more than maybe in the range of $0-$15 for a game, these days. But yeah, if I were making $80k per year, I might very well be somewhat more lenient on that.

And in fact here's someone doing the opposite side of the coin with the "adjusted for inflation" argument. Essentially telling it like it is - people are making less money. (essentially comparing millennials to baby boomers for comparable stages in their lives)

And this is precisely why those who try to argue lower prices completely avoid that side of the argument.
