I've never done much in the way of wiring (in the exclusion of little DC motors.) So is there anything different about wiring LEDs that I will care about?

Barring that your LEDs might not glow properly if you wire them improperly, no, not a thing.
And if they draw too much power for various reasons, well, that's a bit of fun.
Have some spares on-hand.

Don't worry, a ton of them came in a little box. Yes, it's not fun to burn LEDs out.
