Are people more lonely at this time of year or something?

How odd...

yes. well, people's lonliness is often more evident around holidays.

christmas especially, represents family and belonging to a lot of people.

if for whatever reason they lack those things in their life, it will be more evident to them as they watch the going-ons around them.

But what if they *do* have family in their lives? Why feel the need to reach out and touch others? The family life is not fulfilling???

*scratches head*

closeness as a feeling, not relative to space.
it's like how you can be lonely in a crowd, and alone but not lonely.

:)

just cause people are in your life doesn't mean you feel like you belong anywhere or have anyone.

i mean, it's often ppl have others in their life and are ignored, or treated like shit, or like they don't matter. so you are still left with all that.

if xmas brings ppl together, and you don't feel the connection it'd be the same as not having anyone at all.

Ok I get that...it's just odd that at this time of year people tend to reach out more...I mean in the span of 2 days, I have 4 people contact me whom I have not heard from, or have just newly met. What are they doing the rest of the year to keep them occupied?

I guess I will never know or get the connection between Xmas and closeness, because I just go through the motions every year, but I do it more out of habit than anything. I love my family equally all throughout the year.

And why do you think that is?

lack of communication on both of our parts, I guess. Not for lack of trying on my part though.

Christmas does make me think of family and friends, and wanting to see or talk to friends that I haven't contacted for a while. Since the holiday break is coming up I will have more time to do this and I won't be busy with school. and if you know the true meaning of Christmas, for me it's about being in relationship with Christ, and loving those around you.

But don't we love those things all year?

I guess since the holidays never really mean "holidays" to me, i'm different than most.

very true, we should love those things all year...but maybe sometimes we've forgotten or neglected?

yea are you busy working during the holidays?

yes I am working loads....partially by choice, but at the same time I work in jobs in which the holidays are not the time to take a vacation, so I know what I am in for every year. :(
