"Only staff bikes allowed in this building"

In the 6th form our Headmaster instructed us to take care with English expressions. I passed this notice earlier today and wondered where the staff went when they had put their bikes in the building. If only bikes are allowed, people must not enter.

And on an inner door of that august institution the Oxford Union Society, a large type notice advising that on Mondays to Fridays between the hours of 11:30 and 2:30, "only food purchased here is allowed in the bar".
Does the downstairs toilet door still have a sign saying "Gentlemen and Wheelchairs"?

Yes, indeed it does. And the condom machine is emptied "on a daily basis" - some new kind of transportation, I suppose.

we wer'nt guide dogs but we'd like to com in just the same.

I remember my mother saying "but we weren't guide dogs so we didn't go in". At Disneyland, I saw "You must be 48" tall to ride" which was a disappointment, as it looked like quite an exciting ride, but I'm close to six feet. Well, not that close, but you get the idea.

And what about "please alight at both ends" or "use all available doors".
