I feel like people all around me are getting sick. From friends to family. My mom was diagnosed with Chronic Renal (Kidney) Failure in July of this year. They're in the process of getting her a kidney transplant. I'm of course offering my kidney to her. Not only that, but today she found out that she has a cancer in one of her breasts. I just ( Read more... )

Trishka, your mom is awfully young for kidney failure. :O( How long does she have to wait for a kidney? The only thing I know about that transplant I saw on Law and Order, and I bet that's not accurate.

Well she's on the list now. But family members and friends can get tested to donate a kidney if they match. I'm first in line...I'd give anything for her. We're hoping some more family members will step up to the plate though. If not, she could be waiting for 2-4 years if there's no match. She'll have to go on dialysis (she hooks herself up to a machine about twice a week and the machine filters her blood for her - what her kidneys would normally be doing).

Actually...I don't think she's all that young to get it though. She's 52. And they said it might have been something that built up from when she was younger. My mom went to the kidney specialist and said she saw kids our age there that had kidney failure. So I'm not thinking there's any specific age group it affects. All I know is that it was all very sudden when it happened. But she's being taken care of at Shands. They're a wonderful hospital and I know she'll make it through all of this. She's a fighter.

I love you girl! And I miss you.

Well, give you mom my best regards. Tell her she could have my kidney if I wasn't a weirdo blood type.

Love ya back!

your mom is lucky to have such a great daughter. God will make it ok, I know it.

My little brother, Jack (who just passed in the car accident) had kidney failure twice in his life. Once when he was very young 8-12 and just before he passed he had another failure of the kidney his mother gave him. It is a horrible process to go through without others in your life. You can call me anytime you want to, and know that you, and your mother, are in my prayers. I am terribly sorry this has happened, but I know with a little bit of prayers and faith you two can get through it together. :)

Thanks so much, Jess. I know we'll get through it too. She's such a strong woman and I admire my mother so much. I know everything will work out for the better. Thank you for keeping us in your prayers. I hope things are well with you.
