Being a go-between is a thankless job.
And making your brother do his own dirty-work was definitely the right choice. ;)

I just wish sometimes that the two of them actually HAD the confrontations that have been brewing for forty or so years now.
He is still stuck in "rebellious teen" mode when dealing with mom, and mom seems to be stuck in "parent of rebellious teen" mode.
He's in his fifties and she in her seventies. It's not a good look on either of them.

My mom OFFERED -- we would not have actually asked
We did pay it back
I think my dad still resents it

Yikes. If you'd gone down that road a second time, you'd have become the "family interpreter" for the rest of your life. Not a great position to be in.
