I'm back - what's new?

It's only taken a week or so for me to catch up on everything. We had an amazing, stunning, fantastic trip, even through not-great weather and truly horrendous exchange rates. (Worst experience: discovering that the London Underground now costs £4 for a single-fare ticket. That's $8. We discovered this after we'd taken our luggage down a very long ( Read more... )

Thank you. Chad took several of the best ones, including the sunset through the base of the Eiffel Tower and the building being demolished in London.

Super pictures! That one of the building being dismantled nearly gave me an anxiety attack just looking at it.

And the funny thing is that for the past few days, I have been wondering whether standard cards in the UK have the pedals reversed. I have no reason to need to know this, but it's been on my mind. Now I know!

This was a source of considerably anxiety as we sat on the Chunnel train (we were on a Paris train but, disappointingly, did not emerge in London rain because it was quite sunny and pleasant when we arrived).

And you never know when you're going to be renting a car in the UK or Ireland, where automatics are rare and roads are narrow.

The building in London immediately made me think of Rainier Tower in Seattle, which makes the same point a little more gracefully. It was always a bit unnerving to be under, especially given Seattle's seismic issues, even everyone knew that rationally speaking it was among the safest buildings in the city.

Great pictures! I especially enjoyed those of Western Ireland, maybe because it looks cool (thermally).

We're in RI visiting family for Dante's birthday. Other than that, not much news.
