Happenstance

When I'm not catching up on my reading it's my intent to start laying the ground-work for a series called Happenstance until 2007.  After that point I'll either have a steady pace on a new book or be ready to return to a previously started project, like Solace or Braon Well.

For those of you unfamiliar with the concept of Happenstance it's a series ( Read more... )

Sounds interesting! Can't wait to read more about it. It's always so exciting to start typing a new book. :)

It's - man, this book is different. It's like Woven-Dark. The people are acting their age (except for Thom, then subtract about a decade) and it's a different kind of epic fantasy.

I'll have to see what I come up with

You're killing me, Courtney. Absolutely killing me.

Again, you dangle plotlines like so many carrots and make me get invested, only to leave me twisting in the wind as you chase plot bunnies for new stories! Boo, I say! BOOOO!

That being said, I'll be glad to make the acquanitance of Will, Irene, Thom, and Autumn (or 'Aubrey' or 'Aurelia' or whatever other 'Au-' name you decide to give her, should you keep 'Autumn' in reserve for your own progeny).

I'm killing myself with all this. I can't tell you how much I'd love to sit down and just FINISH one book or another. But, at the same time, I don't see the sense in trying so hard to write something if I'm only going to have to do it all again later. Solace and Braon Well are going to be MAJOR rewrites from my first attempt. That's acceptable once, but I can't keep redrafting the same book.

I guess I'm holding it up to the standard of Woven - there were some edits, I took stuff out and added it in, but it wasn't ever like "I don't know what happens next". I might not know everything about Happenstance yet but I think I have enough to get a book - and series - going.

If not, it's keeping me busy and happy until Woven is edited and pitched again ( ... )

To be fair, you spent over a year plotting out Woven. Time is a luxury you no longer have, so I can understand the increased frustration. No one wants to sit on four or five perfectly good ideas while they toil away with one. But the world revolves around me, and I have deemed it unfair for you to tease me with excerpts and then abandon said story for another equally deserving story.

I hear you on the naming thing. I've fallen in love with the name Spencer, and now I'm wondering if I should use it for DEL. The only problem is, what should "Spencer" be called if Spencer he cannot be? I need soemthing slightly British in origin, stodgy or bookish sounding, and long enough to have a nickname. Bah. Woe is us with our cool names.

I know what you mean. After a point the name IS the character. I'm hoping that, because I haven't actually sat down to write, I'll be able to divorce the two and find an acceptable substitute

I'm sure it will be fabulous; I can't wait to read it! I'm not sure I'll ever be brave enough to write a male protagonist, but who knows; maybe I'll be up to the challenge someday.

So far it's not hard. I'm just plan on having Will speak more and think less. But that's also his character. He's not going to internalize and wangst if he can help it.

I just know who Will is and what he'd likely do or say. When you approach it like that you're writing for a character, not a gender.
