Query Re: KotOR and TOR

So, I don't know if anyone here follows the Old Republic MMORPG that's being developed, but I for one am hoping very much that there will be many Mandalorians in major roles, and also as a playable class. I thought the Mandalorians in Knights of the Old Republic had the coolest armor, and some of the most fascinating characters and cultures ( ( Read more... )

Although I'm not a fan of the KOTOR games I will definitly give TOR a try but I won't be going there to expose my "fandalorian" side. As a MMORPG it looks like a promising game, but I disapprove of it being so disconnected from the saga we got used to. It would feel like living in the past but literally.

Of course I'd enjoy wearing cool armor and traveling across star systems to discover new worlds but that's as far as my interest goes into RPG.

Hmmm. Well, I kinda like the setting, as it gives room to breathe (unlike the idiotic every-three-months policy DelRey has going). As for living in the past, I'm not sure why that's bad - what's so great about the present (I speak of the NJO/LotF/Fate of the Jedi), or the future (Legacy), anyway?

And I'd probably try to play as a Mando (or Jedi-turned-Mando if they don't let you) just because a) I like the grunts, and Mandos are probably the closest you can get to grunts in this setting; b) I don't really like Jedi; c) they have really cool guns and armor.

My personal view of the "present" is actually set several years before the Battle of Yavin! I think the Galactic Empire era is just awesome. But I really hate the post-ROTJ material.

It seems that the Jedi-turned-Mando character archetype is extremely trendy amongst RPGers, though I'm an earnest admirer of Bardan "Gotab" Jusik, writing fanfiction centered on him. So I do have immense respect for someone who dares cross those lines but it's not something I'd like to consider lightly if I was a Force-sensitive in Star Wars.

I'm sure there will be a "3rd road" class which allows you to incarnate a character that has a really low midichlorian count.

Well, I love the Clone Wars, the New Republic era, and the Sith/Old Republic era. Not so much the preClone Wars or post Revenge of the Sith. Somewhat Yavin to Endor. So, obviously, lots of room for favorites and non-faves.

Well, I would only be a Jedi/Mando if I couldn't be a straight Mando. Like I said, I don't like Jedi very much. I hope you're right about the non-Force sensative path.

And why the post-ROTJ hate? I admit to hating the NJO and on, but between those there are some really nice things (and even afterwards, I find glimmers of light).

I'm actually not a huge fan of the armor designs in KOTOR. But it's not about the armor, it's about the person inside! *rainbows and kittens rain from the sky* Anyway, I ran a forum RPG for a few months set during the Mandalorian Wars, so I can't say I totally hate the Old Republic. I was really obsessed with the games back in high school too. :D

Anyway, I don't imagine I'll have the time or the funds to actually play the MMO, but I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. :) And if the Mandos are awesome enough, then maybe I'll see what I can do about playing!

I really liked the first KOTOR comic, actually, but I've seen the art from the later issues and it made me cringe. So now I'm not so sure I want to continue reading.

*here from Jedi News*

I actually like the KOTOR Mandos a lot better than the "present" (post-NJO) Mandos. Canderous Ordo is one of my favorite characters in SW, hands down, and Exile/Canderous my favorite pairing.
