Vacation planning

The plans for my fall vacation (well, summer vacation but I'm taking it in september) is falling in place. The main plan for where we (me and my 2 best friends here in Oslo) are going is set.

For now the trip will hit:

Berlin 
Freiburg 
Zurich
Florence 
Pompeii 
Rome 
Pisa 
Avignon 
Paris 
Amsterdam

over a 2 week period, with the most days in Rome. We're

On the continent, I'm convinced rail may be the only way to travel, particularly since most of the long-haul routes offer couchette cars and run overnight, so you don't really have "travel days", you just wake up in a new city.

Two weeks to hit all of that is very ambitious; you could spend a week in each of Berlin, Paris, and Rome without seeing everything you'll want to see.

I don't know if I'll make it to GenCon this year myself; the honeymoon is going to soak up a good chunk of my vacation time.

Rome is the real destination (and Pompeii). The rest is really more like sightseeing along the way. I'm sure we'll return to places like Berlin and Paris on later dates with more extensive stays. 5 days is planned for Rome, which gives us time enough to see some of the sights, but leaves more than enough for return visits.
