What's the deal with Moleskine notebooks? I mean, what's so great about them? Tell me. Am I missing out? They remind me of the water trend of 2002 (and on), and the disdain I had for Nalgene bottles at the time. Can I at least run over a Moleskine product with a school bus without putting a dent in it ( Read more... )

I SAW THAT AND MY HEART EXPLODED WITH JOY FOR YOU

Did Stereogum start on livejournal? I was thinking recently that I remember you posting about his move to a .com a longlong time ago... aaaaand now I read it with religious zeal everyday.

THANK YOU!!

Yeah, years ago. I used to be lj friends with him and his (now) wife. They're such funny, sweet people. Now he's all official, Stereogum LLC. It's pretty cool.

HEMINGWAY AND PICASSO, my dear friend. The clear implication is that if you purchase Moleskine notebooks then you too will be legendary! I have a bright red Moleskine planner that I love, though. Really love.

AHA. Hm... would you agree to the statement below this one? Because I find the butter sensation rather appealing.

I like Claire Fontaine notebooks, though I find most of the designs on them rather HOMELY. Homley as notebook covers can be, anyway.

Hey, you forget to mention Chatwin. I want to be like Chatwin!

I have no idea who that is, actually. My sister's boyfriend told me very matterfactly "Oh, he's the guy who invented the post-it" but I'm pretty sure he's lying to me.

Wow, I think you might have just sold me. In truth, I have never touched it before.

Okay, so I was just at Barnes & Noble and when I came upon a shelf of Moleskines. I noticed the plastic wrap had been removed from one, so I opened it up and ran my fingers over it. AND YOU'RE RIGHT. At least, it's the closest any paper I've felt has ever been to butter, anyway. I like.

i am, sometimes. i forgot about that part of your post.
in general, i agree with the above comment. i like having a little book to carry around instead of my big sketchbook (which isn't a moleskine), but generally i find small books tend to have awful paper. moleskines have nice soft creamy paper. there are probably some other good little books out there but because of moleskine's popularity it's just easier to get hold of.

Hey, thanks! That's cool that it was easily recognizable to you. Sometimes I don't know how consistent my style seems.
